This was very insightful and it takes extraordinary amounts of will power to reject the dopamine hits from passive entertainment. Definitely need a framework for people who want to reduce it

Nate, I really appreciate your thoughtfulness here. I had not considered the difference in locus between internally and externally driven. It's powerful for me and for how I think about myself as a parent.

Amplifying our natural tendencies is an interesting way of looking at it. We all have varying degrees of the same natural tendencies but what pushes us in one direction or another I believe is based on what we're exposed to and the mind states / projects we're pursuing in life.

I solved that problem by staying away from socials for 10 years but having started to use facebook for work a few weeks back, the synchronicity of that article hit home. For the last couple of days I've been trying to put safe guard in place to make sure my facebook time was actually productive...
