Thanks for the list, but I'll stick to rereading "50 Shades of Grey", the greatest work of fiction ever created.

Can’t go wrong there!

If you liked Station Eleven, check out Mandel’s Glass Hotel and Sea of Tranquility, which form a kind of pair. I love how she balances the metaphysical topic of interwoven realities with a super compelling story and memorable characters.

Also, the miniseries version of Station Eleven was brilliant and worth a watch.

Heard this from a couple people now, moving them up the list!

I'm going to check out some of the books, thanks! The best sci-fi I read this year was Dispossessed, by Ursula Le Guin. I've been on the lookout for more utopian sci-fi 'cause the dystopian ones are wearing me out. This one wasn't really utopian per se, but presents societies that are more rich and nuanced.

And I read Crypto Confidential ! Loved the pace and the inside look into this crazy world...

Thank you Sandhya! Glad you enjoyed it.

Agreed that it's hard to find good utopian sci-fi, probably because the conflict so often has to do with the world. It does seem like you could do a totally unrelated plotline, like a Sherlock Holmes murder mystery, in a utopian-esque setting though... .

Agree on East of Eden. That and Lonesome Dove are my favorite books of all time. I really wanted to enjoy the Will of the Many but if felt a bit flat for me - but I’m in the minority. Right now my fav book I’ve read in 2024 is probably Tunnel 29.

Did you finish it? Or drop it partway? I agree that it gets a bit of a slow start.

Lonesome Dove has been on my list for a while, Tunnel 29 looks great!

Another vote for Lonesome Dove from me. I was putting it off for ages as it's quite big, but when I did get around to reading it, it became my favourite fiction book of all time by a long shot! East of Eden is now top of my priority list for 2025!
