Love this perspective - "is the audience screaming at them in frustration for repeating the same failed patterns over and over again." Often times are loved ones will speak up once or twice about something they see us doing, but will often let it go as "thats just them being them" and not scream at you. I'm going to adopt that mentality that I want the audience cheering me on when I make decisions, not screaming at me in frustration.

The strongest case for the positive effects of living as the main character I’ve seen. Nice one, Nat.

Thanks Mike! Earlier draft had a section on how this makes you try to honestly assess whether your character is one anyone would be curious to keep reading about but it felt like it was getting a bit negative…

I bet it could take a positive direction with some TLC. 😊

It could perhaps come across as negative, if only because we must be careful with living for ourselves vs. living for others. However, the idea itself sounds very Jungian--gotta know what kind of story (“myth”) we’re living because it could be a tragedy.

Another beauty Nat! I'd have never thought about it this way. Left me feeling called out. Especially the part about recognizing that the best parts of life are hidden behind great efforts. Do you think it's possible to always operate from this perspective without wavering?

Great article. "Life doesn’t make sense. But it’s helpful to pretend it does."

Excellent Write Up! Wake Up call !

Could you please help elaborate this part...

"Or is the audience screaming at them in frustration for repeating the same failed patterns over and over again? "

Who is referenced to the audience here Nat ? Many Thanks !

When I read "giving up on speed" I definitely first thought of "speed" as amphetamines, despite the reference being hyperlinked. Just so casually tossed into this list, also reminded me of the great scene from Airplane: https://giphy.com/gifs/airplane-the-movie-lloyd-bridges-netiPcSYWAQnu

Great article! I can already feel it changing the way I think.

Obviously there are dangers with thinking your life should follow the perfect script (romance is a good example), but in general this mental model is a useful one.
